Reusable Water Bottles
Last year as part of the work on the water flag, the students were invited to take part in a competition to design a logo for reusable water bottles that would be provided for each pupil in the school by Cavan County Council. The winning Logo was designed by Amy Donnelly.
On Tuesday 9th of October, Cllr. Madeline Argue and the Cavan County Council visited Farnham National School and presented the reusable water bottles to pupils in the school.
We hope the reusable water bottles will reduce the use of single plastic water bottles in our school.

Four Students from Farnham National School, Mischa Freeman, Sarah Clarke, Aoife O’Callaghan and Conor Doyle, participated in the Water Forum at Errigal Hotel. The students participated in group work and science experiments. They heard presentations from Irish Water, A Showcase School and ‘Water’ theme presentation by Green-Schools staff. They worked together to create an ‘ideal water school’ and designed an action plan for moving forward. The students presented their great ideas to the Water Forum Audience. It was a great day with lots of ideas generated and lots of activates to report back to our green school committee.
Water Survey
Checking for Leaks in the School
Teachers and students went around the school checking all the toilets with food dye. We checked all the taps and radiators to see if there was anything leaking. We were very happy after all our checks and experiments that we found no leaks in the school - Green School Committee
The Green Flag Notice Board
New Information board - Facts about Water.
The Green School Committee did a fantastic job on doing up an information board on the facts about water and how our school uses water in the environment.
Hippo Bags
Hippo the Water Saver is the simple, proven and low cost water saving device to help conserve water in toilet cisterns. A school uses 60% of their water in the toilet, with toilet flushing. Every time a toilet is flushed the Hippo not only saves up to 3 litres of water, but it will also reduce our carbon footprint and save our school money.
We have our Water Slogan !!!!
The Committee have launched their new "Tip Sheet For Saving Water"
We hope everyone will enjoy reading our tips on how to save water in our community, at home and in the school.
Water Presentation – Source to Tap
Today the students from 6th class to 4th class were lucky to have a presentation explaining how our water comes from its source to our taps. In the presentation students gained an insight into the process of how our water is treated before it is sent to our taps for drinking. The students got an opportunity to make their own treatment plant enabling them to see how water is treated before it is safe to drink.
Our Green School Notice Board - Update
