Wednesday June the 24th was an emotional day in Farnham School as we celebrated the retirement of our dedicated principal, Mr Bernard Donohoe. Mass was celebrated by Fr. Kevin Donohoe where we gave thanks  for  Mr Donohoe's generous spirit, his caring nature and his respect for each and every child in his care. We also prayed for master Donohoe as he begins a new chapter in his life and asked God to bless him on the next stage of his journey.

Mr Donohoe was joined by his wife Geraldine, his daughter Niamh, son Daire and his brother Donal. Tributes were paid by Fr Kevin Donohoe, Mrs Eithne Martin (Vice principal), Board of management, parents association and a parent representative from the school community. Their speeches highlighted the high esteem in which he held his staff and how each child was celebrated for their uniqueness and individuality. It was noted that Bernard was generous with his time outside the classroom, his interest in football, athletics and love of quizzes was highlighted.

To help Master Donohoe celebrate his retirement and the countless children that he helped to educate, he was joined by 21 past pupils, one to represent each year he spent as principal of our school. This was a particularly moving experience for Bernard and the effort that each of these students made to join him on the day, goes to prove how much he was loved in the school community.

The celebration ended with a slideshow. We journeyed back through the years with Master Donohoe and were suitably entertained and amused.
Our final goodbye to Master Donohoe was the planting of a baby Oak tree. As you know our motto is 'Out of acorns, grow strong Oak trees'.

Enjoy your retirement Master Donohoe, you were important in Farnham School, hope when you look back, you will say you had a good time!
